Get away from it all on the most Easterly of Shetland's Isles
Out Skerries is a group of small islands 10 miles east of the Shetland Mainland the largest islands are Housay, Bruray and Grunay with the inhabited islands of Housay and Bruray connected by a bridge. A regular ro-ro ferry the Filla, runs on Tuesday and Thursday to and from Lerwick and the rest of the week to and from Vidlin.
It needs to be booked in advance. Out Skerries can also be reached by air by way of a small airstrip. There is a superb natural harbour between the main islands providing a safe and picturesque anchorage for local boats, fishing vessels and visiting yachts.
